Feed in only when there is enough space on the grid

Claassen Logistics in Tilburg, in cooperation with Enexis and DSG, has started an innovative project that enables feed-in to the grid even with limited transmission capacity. This project uses the Embion EMS, which makes optimal use of the solar energy generated.

Efficient feed-in without transport capacity

Claassen Logistics is only allowed to feed solar energy back when there is sufficient space on the power grid. The Embion EMS continuously monitors the grid load and compares it with the solar intensity. When surrounding companies do not fully utilize the available transmission capacity, Claassen can feed some of the generated energy back to the grid.

Thanks to this approach, the grid is used more efficiently, while at the same time Claassen gets maximum benefit from his solar installation. The Embion EMS makes this arrangement possible without direct control from Enexis.

What is ZonBalans?

ZonBalans is a scheme developed by Enexis that optimally uses the capacity of the power grid by avoiding peaks in the grid. The scheme works on the basis of solar intensity (expressed in watts per m²). At a solar intensity of 50% or lower, feed-in is possible within the contracted capacity. At a solar intensity above 50%, feed-in is automatically reduced.

This smart distribution ensures that companies with transmission constraints can still feed back a large portion of their generated energy. In some cases, this can be as much as 70% of unused electricity.

How does the Embion EMS work within ZonBalans?

The Embion EMS uses a sun sensor and an advanced controller to measure solar intensity and adjust feed-in accordingly. The system automatically switches the feed-in on and off depending on the available space on the grid. This keeps the system operating efficiently even with limited transmission capacity.

This ZonBalans pilot demonstrates how companies can make optimal use of solar energy even with transport limitations. Thanks to the Embion EMS, it is possible to place solar installations and feed them smartly back into the grid.
