After installing 500 kWp of solar panels in 2022, Aalbers|Wico was ready for the next step: to remain assured of power even in the event of grid failure. At a time when grid congestion and security of supply are increasingly under pressure, they consciously opted for a stable emergency power solution.

Together with involved partners, the existing energy system was expanded with battery storage, emergency power supplies and smart control.

Smart emergency power, fully automatic

The power system consists of a 500 kW/1,044 kWh battery, a 750 kW PCAB from SolaX Power and a 250 kVA emergency power generator from Zeppelin Power NL. Thanks to its green camouflage wrap, the battery storage is not only powerful but also surprisingly inconspicuous. The whole thing is intelligently controlled by the Embion EMS.

When Stedin's power grid fails, the PCAB automatically takes over the power supply within 20 milliseconds. If the battery charge level drops below 20%, the generator starts up automatically. As soon as the batteries are sufficiently charged again or the grid returns, the system switches back automatically. Completely without manual intervention.

The Embion EMS as a reliable brain

The central control of this solution is the Embion EMS. Our system continuously monitors the status of the grid, batteries and emergency power supplies and determines in real time which energy source to use. This way, Aalbers|Wico is always assured of power, regardless of the grid situation.

Thanks to this smart control, the power system is not only suitable for emergency power, but also prepared for future challenges such as grid congestion and peak loads.

Security today, flexibility for tomorrow

With this expansion, Aalbers|Wico has a future-proof energy system that combines security and smart technology. A powerful example of how battery storage, emergency power and intelligent control come together in one integrated solution.
