Emmett Green and Embion EMS: smart market optimisation, local control

Written by Ronald Koenen | Oct 22, 2026, 11:41:09 AM

Smart management in the energy market and staying within your grid limit are increasingly becoming intertwined due to grid congestion. To achieve this, you need a partner who knows when your flexibility yields the greatest returns, and an on-site system that safely implements those controls. That’s why Emmett Green has established a connection with the Embion EMS via our public API. Embion customers can now choose Emmett Green as their control provider.

What does Emmett Green do?

Emmett Green is an independent consultant and delegated developer specializing in grid congestion and energy management. They guide organizations from the initial feasibility study, through design and implementation, to the day-to-day optimization of their energy system. This could be a single solar roof, or a complete energy hub with storage, heating, and a group transmission agreement.

Emmett Green operates in a hardware-agnostic manner: they aim to be able to send control signals via various types of local hardware. That’s why the integration with the Embion EMS is a logical step.

What does the Embion EMS do?

The Embion EMS is the on-site controller that monitors and controls your installations. The EMS is brand- and asset-independent. It controls charging stations, batteries, solar panels, heat pumps, and more, and in the Embion Hub, you can see in real time what each asset consumes and generates. Installers can configure the system themselves and adapt it to new technology. This way, your installation grows with you without having to start over.

Emmett Green sets the strategy; the Embion EMS handles the execution

Emmett Green determines when and how your flexibility is utilized, based on market prices, your goals, and constraints such as transmission contracts and grid costs. Through the integration with the Embion EMS, Emmett Green optimizes performance in the day-ahead, intraday, and imbalance markets, as well as in redispatch and ex post markets. The Embion EMS translates those control signals to the installation itself and distributes the energy across all your assets. This way, a single strategy works for your entire installation, from battery to charging station.

Optimization without losing local control

The Embion EMS remains the local controller. It monitors the limits of your connection and prevents peak charges. If the internet connection is lost, the EMS continues to operate normally. Emmett Green adds the smart market layer to this.

Control tailored to your location

In the Embion Hub, you select Emmett Green as your control provider. Emmett Green receives an immediate notification and makes you a tailored proposal. They then tailor the control to your goals, such as smoothing out peaks, maximizing market revenue, or staying within your grid limit. This way, you start with a strategy that fits your situation, rather than a default setting.

More choice in control providers

With Emmett Green, we’re further expanding the range of control providers in the Embion EMS. You choose which provider suits you best. The Embion EMS remains the fixed foundation on-site. The integration is available to all existing and new customers.
